THREE AND A half hours of talks today failed to resolve differences between the Barbados Workers’ Union and the Barbados Light & Power Company Limited on a cost-cutting exercise at the electricity company.
BL&P’s human resources manager Roger Babooram told NATION NEWS that both sides had been having “open, frank and honest” discussions over a number of weeks but “we still have some differing positions”. He said a major bone of contention was severance payment.
The power company is looking to reduce its staff through early retirement and voluntary separation packages as well as layoffs.
Today’s discussions took place under the chairmanship of deputy chief labour officer Victor Felix at the BWU’s headquarters. (TY)
