OUTSIDE THE PULPIT: Can’t see sense in students using ZRs

If one member suffers, all suffer together. If one member is honoured, all rejoice together. – 1 Corinthians 12:26

I WILL BEGIN my column this week by expressing my heartfelt sympathy to the principal, staff and students of the Springer Memorial School, especially to Zakiyah DeFreitas, who was the most badly hurt after a ZR van flipped while heading into the Nursery Drive Terminal in Bridgetown last week Tuesday afternoon.

What I found to be very shocking and amazing was the day after the accident, some of the students were asked about travelling in a ZR again and they said yes.

It shows that children will be children, regardless of what may have taken place and some are not fearful at all.

The answer surprised me and it shows that you can never stop anybody from doing what they want to do, whether it is right or wrong. Sometimes I wonder if they are thinking.

I cannot see the sense of students wanting to travel on a ZR and pay a fare when they have the honour and privilege to travel for free on Transport Board buses. I do not understand and may never understand.

This is one case where I am not prepared to put the blame on the school or the parents/guardians, because these days some of our students have minds of their own and are prepared to do whatever they like, which is usually the wrong thing.

Since it was reported that the ZR was insured carry 14 passengers and 21 passengers were on board, I would like to know which of the 14 will be compensated by the insurance company?

May those of you who were injured in the accident continue to be healed as I continue to pray for all of you.
