Misbah to join Tridents

AS THE BARBADOS TRIDENTS prepare to say goodbye to one Pakistani player, another has been named to join them for the latter rounds of the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 cricket competition.

The CPL announced Tuesday that Pakistan Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq will join the Tridents as Shoaib Malik will play his final game on Friday against St Lucia Zouks.

Malik has scored 127 runs from the Tridents’ four matches this season. Overall, he has played 22 matches and scored 805 runs with a strike rate of 122.71 and an average of 44.72. He also has taken five wickets.

Although the Pakistan Cricket Board is yet to announce their One Day International squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, the CPL says Malik has been selected.

“Shoaib has been a fantastic player in the CPL so it’s a shame to lose him, but we are delighted he’s back in the Pakistan squad and we wish him every success in the upcoming series,” CPL director Tom Moody is quoted as saying on ESPN.

“Misbah is one of the most respected cricketers in the world and we’re sure he’ll be an excellent addition to the Tridents squad,” he added.

Overall, Misbah, 41, has played 116 T20s with an average of 36.09. He has scored 2 635 runs, the highest being 107 not out.
