CHALLENGERS are the kings of lower division knockout basketball.
Adrian Fowler scored 14 of his game-high 16 points in the second half while Challengers built a 15-point lead, before staving off a late rally to beat rivals Patriots 66-59 in basketball’s First Division knockout final at the Barbados Community College.
Clinging to a single-digit lead to start the third quarter, Fowler ignited a decisive Challengers run, scoring ten third-quarter points on four jumpers including a pair of huge treys to open up a 44-32 cushion.
The lead then grew to 15 points (55-40) following a tough coast-to-coast lay-up from Alwyn Lovell and two other transition baskets scored by Andre “Frankie” Pierre and Neil Patrick. (JM)
