Port squeeze

CUSTOMS OFFICERS STEPPED up industrial action to drive home their position to Government yesterday, halting virtually all customs operations except for select areas.

The customs officers are demanding withdrawal of option letters issued Monday, instructing that they indicate whether they will accept transfer to the new Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA).

Officers from the Customs and Excise Department on the Harbour Road were joined by colleagues from the Bridgetown Port and a few from the Warrens headquarters, in a protest stand-off outside the Harbour Road offices from early in the morning.

There was similar action at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA).  (GC)
