DESPITE ANOTHER personal best performance, Akela Jones did not win a medal in the women’s long jump tonight at the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada.

Instead, she set a new national record of 6.60 metres, erasing her own mark of 6.55 metres, finishing sixth overall.

The gold medal went to Canada’s Christabel Nettey, who dominated the field with 6.90 metres. Bahamian Bianca Stuart produced 6.69 metres in the middle rounds to take silver and American Sha’Keela Saunders waited late before she leaped 6.66 to take the bronze medal. (SAT)
