Tsunami probability ‘extremely low’

BARBADOS IS NOT under a tsunami alert.

Actually, the likelihood of Barbados experiencing a tsunami as a result of the eruption of underwater volcano  Kick ’em Jenny is very low, said acting director of the Coastal Zone Management Unit, Dr Lorna Inniss.

Instead, Inniss said more attention should be paid to seismic activity, namely earthquakes, which have been rocking the island over the past week. Inniss noted that 90 per cent of the tsunamis across the world were caused by earthquakes, not volcanoes which fall into the ten per cent.
