GOVERNMENT WILL be asked to launch an investigation into how some security firms are treating their staff.
The request will come through a resolution by the Barbados Workers’ Union during its 74th annual annual general conference this weekend at Solidarity House.
One of the concerns for the BWU is that security officers are not being compensated fairly for the work they perform.
General secretary Toni Moore said she would be calling for a “special inquiry” into the conditions of security guards and suggested the findings be used to draft legislation that would protect security officers and provide them with basic standards.
“You would have heard us make reference earlier in the year to a particular challenge that we had with . . . G4S where the ILO convention regarding equal pay for work of equal value and equal pay for equal work seems to be a concept that this company has tossed through the window.
