Farmer eyeing breadfruit fries

ONE FARMER wants to capitalise on the popularity of breadfruit to produce another Barbadian delicacy.

The breadfruit, seen in many backyards across Barbados, has caught the eye of managing director of ARMAG Farms, Richard Armstrong, who has already hit the market with sweet potato chips.

Now he is looking to turn the breadfruit into fries with a Bajan touch if, according to him, he can deal with the thieves who are already stealing the young trees.

He said that since the programme began last year, over 20 trees had been dug up from his farm in Sunbury, St Philip.

“We put up a sign once begging people not to trespass, a nice sign that cost us some money. You know what happen? The sign got stolen. We’ve even had to plant some twice but lost them, too.
