A CALL HAS BEEN MADE for more state funding for local athletes.
It comes from the first vice-president of the Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) Noel Lynch.
Lynch told SUNSPORT it would be one way of keeping athletes in the college system in the sport longer especially if they have thoughts of turning professional.
His comments come on the heels of the Barbados’ performance at the world championships in China where five of the athletes reached the semi-finals of their respective events.
“At the end of the day if you want Barbados to start rivalling Jamaica at the per capita level, we will need to put more state resources into the people who have done well at the college level and then need to stick around another three to four years because you start getting your best performances between 25 and 30,” the former CARIFTA sprint champion said.
