GALLE, SRI LANKA – Left-hander Dimuth Karunaratne stretched his overnight ton to a career-best 186, and Dinesh Chandimal compiled 151, as Sri Lanka took command of the first cricket Test against the West Indies here on Day 2 yesterday.

The pair’s record third-wicket partnership of 238 was the bedrock of the hosts’ first innings, which ended at a formidable 484 despite the loss of their last seven wickets for 59.

Devendra Bishoo grabbed four for 143, and although guilty of offering up too many bad balls, the leg-spinner could have enjoyed better returns if the fielding effort had been up to par.

Jerome Taylor, with two for 65, and Shannon Gabriel, one for 76, provided the best pace performances on the day.
