IT WAS LIKE a scene from an old Western movie as police were involved in a shooting with a man in a wooded section of the Belle Plantation, St Michael, yesterday.

Bystanders reported that police were chasing the man when he opened fire on them. When the gunfire ended, personnel from the Tactical Response Unit and other ranks emerged with two men in handcuffs.

Julie Stewart, who with her husband Stephen owns the building where the suspects were taken into custody, said she was downstairs preparing to leave when she heard the gunfire.

“I was inside my apartment when I heard the gunfire and a crash upstairs,” she told the DAILY NATION. “I came out to have a look around and saw the police, who told me to go back inside and they would come to me when they are ready.”
