OUT-OF-SEASON FOOTBALL as we know it is about to kick the dust.

Barbados’ best players won’t be eligible to play in non-Barbados Football Association (BFA) competitions from next season, as the new FIFA licensing system now restricts all registered footballers to appear for one club in a calendar year.

BFA president Randy Harris broke the news in a telephone interview with WEEKENDSPORT yesterday after revealing that close to 60 local clubs had already been qualified to be licensed for the 2016 season.

“This is the reason why the LIME Pelican Challenge isn’t playing at this time because FIFA has told the world that any registered player of any club can only play for the club he is registered with in that year regardless of the competition,” Harris explained. (JM)
