YEAH, the big race is back, but where’s the big money?

Perennial Trinidadian contender Curtis Cox says he won’t be contesting another Run Barbados Marathon Weekend, not even to defend his crown, having expressed extreme displeasure over receiving just $1 000 for winning the marathon.

“Sure I’m pleased [that the marathon is back] but the last time I ran here the first-place prize was US$3 000 and now it’s US$500. That’s a big drop,” Cox revealed only minutes after finishing the full marathon – the festival’s most lucrative race. run-barbados-logo

“So that’s not much of an incentive to run here. I would always push for the marathon to return but not with these kind of prizes and I won’t be defending my title with this money.” (JM)
