THE MAN WHO conceptualised the St Philip Carnival is concerned about the direction it has taken.
Curtis Jordan told the DAILY NATION that the carnival was still very relevant to the eastern parish but more people had to get involved in the planning.
Speaking from his shop Team Curtis in the Six Roads Market, the 53-year-old Jordan, a Bayfield resident, said he was not blaming the street party for the two shooting deaths on the day of the parade last week Monday. But he lamented that the standard for the annual jump-up had dropped.
“It is failing every year,” he said. “From what I see it needs to be properly structured. It needs to get back to the community.”
Jordan said the idea to hold the carnival came to him in the late 1990s while he was in St Lucia hosting a promotion for Banks Holdings Ltd. (MB)
