Helpless

FREQUENT and extended water outages curtailing routine household chores will leave any family inconvenienced, but when they prevent you from obtaining an income, a sense of helplessness and anger sets in.

Such is the case of the Hamblin family of Vault Road in Welchman Hall, St Thomas. Their household income traditionally comes from farming and cake-making, both of which have been almost crippled by the failure of the Barbados Water Authority to keep the mains supplied.

Farmer James said that had it not been for some recent showers he would have lost most of his crops in the fields. He is adamant that the water outages have been the worst since they moved to the rural community in the late 1970s.

And having woken up to constant dry taps over the Christmas holidays they have now reached boiling point over the failure of officials of the BWAto at least offer an explanation for what’s taking place and some timeline for when it will end.
