All gone

THEY LOST EVERYTHING. While others were celebrating the arrival of New Year’s Day, two men, both Guyanese nationals, saw their rented house at Jackson, St Michael, go up in smoke yesterday.

Gordon August, 45, and Shelton Johnson 40, watched motionless as Barbados Fire Service officers doused what remained of the wood and wall house.

The fire, which broke out around 2:30 p.m., left both men visibly shaken, but August, the more talkative of the two, said that he was asleep when Shelton woke up and alerted him to the fire.

“I don’t know what happened. I barely wake up and run through the house and when I run outside, I saw it all over. I tried to run back inside but I couldn’t save anything,” August said.
