TWO 40-foot stages were erected in Independence Square yesterday in preparation for tomorrow’s gala launch of celebrations marking Barbados’ 50th anniversary of Independence.
Local producer and technical director Dorsie Boyce was seen lending his expertise to the set-up for what promises to be a spectacular show.
There was frenzied activity all around the statue of the “Father of Independence”, National Hero Errol Barrow, with lighting experts mounting towering spotlights to illuminate the area, Preparations were being made for the positioning of the several giant screens which would allow the thousands of spectators expected to get a fullview of the activities.
The programme gets under way at 6 p.m. and Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave and Prime Minister Freundel Stuart will be in attendance. Schools will be closed as children drawn from many of them participate in a parade that will move from Lower Bridgetown at 5 p.m. and end in Independence Square.
