WHEN AN AUTHOR pens a book, Cherise Ward draws the pictures to bring the words to life.

The illustrator, who has worked with writers across the Caribbean and has even penned and illustrated books of her own, said she hoped to see her work in the local school system one day. She also has high hopes that she will have one of her books published by an international company.

Ward said she had always been interested in art. From the time she was a little girl about five years old she has been drawing.

When she attended The St Michael School, she did Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) art before completing the associate degree in visual arts at the Barbados Community College. As the winner of a Barbados Scholarship in 2006, Ward went on to study at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, New York. There she did her bachelor of fine arts in illustration and has been working professionally as an illustrator since she graduated in 2009.
