CRITICISM OF Government’s expenditure on the 50th anniversary of Independence celebrations are way off the mark, says Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler.

Additionally, this criticism is being made without knowledge of exactly how much was even being spent, he insisted.

“I hear people say that they’re concerned with how much money Government is spending, but they can’t tell you how much money Government is really spending. If you don’t know what the figure is, then how can you tell me that it’s too much?” he asked.

Concerns had been raised over the fireworks show and spectacle created for the 50th anniversary celebration launch on January 6, but Sinckler told the media yesterday that 50 years of Independence was a special achievement that deserved to be celebrated.
