BARBADIANS ARE BAGGING more insect repellents.

Concerned about the Zika virus that has spread to 23 countries in the Americas, both locals and tourists have been raiding shelves for mosquito coils, sprays and oils.

When the SUNDAY SUN contacted several businesses last week, three retailers made a link between the increased demand for the products and the Zika virus, which has infected four Barbadians, based on the last report from the Ministry of Health.

At the Eagle Hall Pharmacy in St Michael, there had been increased demand for mosquito repellents according to pharmacist, Derek Catlyn.

“People coming and buy like three or four [repellents at a time],” he said, noting that a spray appropriate for young children was amongst the top sellers.
