THE LARGEST DENOMINATION of Christians on the island is girding its loins as it prepares to fight for the retention of the traditional family and marriage.

Anglican Bishop of Barbados and the Archbishop of the West Indies Dr John Holder said the fight was part of the Anglican Church’s strategic plan for the next three years.

He was speaking to thousands of the faithful who thronged the gymnasium of  the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex yesterday for the annual diocesan service, traditionally held on the last Sunday of the Epiphany season.

Outlining the plan, entitled Being a Beacon of Christ’s Presence in the Community, which will guide the local Anglican Church for 2016 to 2019, Holder said as the largest single denomination on this island and given the great work done by the Mothers’ Union and other groups, and with 80 million members worldwide, “we want to lead the national discussion on the family”.
