AN INVESTIGATION into coach Phil Simmons’ claims of outside interference over the selection of the West Indies team has found two top officials of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) to be in breach of protocol.

While a report submitted by human resource specialist Colin Barnett concluded that the selectors duly followed appropriate measures, it determined that WICB president Dave Cameron and vice-president Emmanuel Nanthan spoke out of turn in voicing support for the selection of veteran batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

Seemingly admitting that the existing policy needed to be enhanced, the report also listed seven recommendations aimed at improving the process.

The WICB commissioned the report last November after reinstating Simmons as coach following a suspension two months earlier that had been triggered by his outburst in expressing dissatisfaction over the selection of the One-Day International squad for a tour of Sri Lanka. (HG)
