UNITY was the watchword in Brooklyn last Sunday night when the Friends of Barbados (DLP) Association held its annual Cocktail Sip at St Gabriel’s Church Hall in Brooklyn to kick off the support campaign for the celebration the 50th anniversary of the Independence of Barbados.

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, who attended the event, was given rousing applause and a standing ovation as he walked on to the stage to the tune of Beautiful Barbados played by New York-based Bajan band Technic, whose leader is Andy Hewitt.

The Prime Minister thanked the audience for their loyal support, and urged them to join in helping the Barbados Consulate recognise the potential of those Barbadians who have made substantial contributions to the development of Barbados over the past 50 years.

In his hour-long address, Stuart gave a historical background of the progress Barbados made during the past 50 years.
