Govt standing on Cahill project

GOVERNMENT WILL not be “walking back” from its position that waste to energy is the way to go for Barbados, even if some people want to take it “to the guillotine” over the issue.

A defiant Minister of Environment Dr Denis Lowe made this vow as he came out swinging against critics of the energy-from-waste concept as proposed by Cahill Energy.

He urged them to turn their attention to the $100 million Greenland Landfill, which had not received even “a toffee paper” but now looked like “ISIS passed through there”.

The Christ Church East MP reignited the Cahill controversy yesterday as he piloted debate on an amendment to the Sanitation Service Act  to transfer the SSA’s responsibility from the Minister of Health to the Minister of Environment.
