Tea update: Pride struggling against Jaguars

BRIDGETOWN – Barbados Pride, who won the toss and batted, were struggling on 152 for five off 54 overs against leaders Guyana Jaguars at tea on the opening day of their seventh round top-of-the-table regional Professional Cricket League first-class match at Kensington Oval here Friday.

The not out batsmen are Shamarh Brooks on 55 and Jonathan Carter, who is yet to get off the mark. Brooks reached his 50 off 107 balls in 150 minutes with seven fours and a six.

Resuming from 78 for two at lunch, Barbados Pride lost three wickets while adding a further 74 runs in 29 overs.

Shai Hope was dismissed for 27 off the first ball after the interval when he was bowled by left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul.

Permaul also captured a second wicket when Roston Chase skied a catch to Assad Fudadin at extra cover to end the session with two for 32 in 17 overs.

Barbados lost their fifth wicket when leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo, who was belatedly brought into the attack, was caught at slip by Jaguars’ captain Leon Johnson for five.   

In the pre-lunch session, the batsmen dismissed were openers Kyle Corbin and captain Kraigg Brathwaite for a “duck” and 40 respectively.

Corbin was bowled by fast bowler Keon Joseph while Brathwaite, who hit seven fours in his 51-ball knock, was caught by wicket-keeper Anthony Bramble off left-arm seamer Raymon Reifer without scoring. (EZS)
