THE BARBADOS DEFENCE FORCE’S (BDF) drug screening and tattoo policies continue to weed out unsuitable applicants.

Records officer Lieutenant Commander Fernella Cordle said that, while 77 new trainees had been inducted after the first recruitment drive for the year held recently, an undisclosed number had also been screened.

“Our tattoo and zero tolerance to drugs policies as well as our polygraph testing weeded out some of the applicants. It is not that we are against the designs of the tattoos so much but they can present a health risk due to skin infections,” she said.

Even so, Cordle admitted she was not completely happy with the number of recruits as there were still a number of open positions, including among the officers. (CA)
