Mackie riding high

DANE MACKIE won the battle of national champions to capture the men’s open division at the Barbados Surfing Association’s first event of the year recently.

Competing in near perfect conditions at South Point, Mackie dropped the highest wave score of the day to win from Ché Allan and Bruce Mackie.

On a day when waves were shoulder to head high, surfers took advantage of the conditions to drop some high wave and heat scores.

Many of the surfers have had a change in age divisions this year and there were new finalists in every division.
