Crop theft ‘cartel’

IT’S ORGANISED CRIME!

And Barbados’ crop theft is well thought out, and completely out of control too, says the operator of a farm that has been one of the hardest hit by thieves.

General manager of Armag Farms, Richard Armstrong, said he wasn’t overly impressed by the recent spate of arrests of people for crop theft. Not after losing more than $100 000 to crop thieves every year for the past five years. He said he believed those recently brought to justice had already been replaced as part of a cartel that has brought the agricultural sector to its proverbial knees.

According to him, those perpetrators were just pawns in the whole game. (BA)
