FLYING FISH & COU COU: Queen’s loyal bee

WELL, WELL.

A young dreadlocked woman recently surprised many people with her feisty stance on an issue of which she felt the public ought to hear diverse views.

Some people who were  coming from an event at a church service on Roebuck Street over a week ago said they were surprised by the vocal position of this thin brownlin, given the pitch of her voice and how adamant she was in defence of what she called a high-minded stand.

Apparently, this young princess, who lives in the Pine, can be considered a loyal worker for her boss, whom many refer to as the Queen Bee. The young girl believes that there is no need for a swarm of workers if they are just going to be standing idle.

So she was talking loud that night recently and said if there are six or seven who are gathered and supportive  of the Queen Bee then let them go forth  because she feels that the time will come when tough decisions will have to be taken against those who do not want to pull their weight. The gist of her argument is that age is on the side of the Queen Bee and as a loyal worker she will stay on the job to give support. She says the words of her dad ring daily in her ears: “Never become a grasshopper.”

A clear picture should emerge within the next 96 hours on the position the lady from the Pine has proposed if these idlers do not carry their load.

But to give them their walking papers, as was suggested, may be a ticklish thing since they have the full backing of their unions and are known to be shop stewards very familiar with all the laws and conditions of employment.

Normally the big bash which starts tomorrow and runs until the celebration of the general’s birthday at monthend, would ensure that the spotlight is on the local grand old party. But this party, which has been moving to the music for threescore plus ten and more, may have much of its thunder stolen this year.

It seems as if the wild boys from Lands End are mounting a big party to also celebrate their milestones. So the two groups will have some overlaps in the various events for the remainder of the month.

Both of them are going to church to ask God’s guidance, even if they don’t  go again for the remainder of the year for such blessings. But church service is where the similarities end. The young Turks have decided that this year some big things will be happening, so a very respected fellow has been asked to come and give of his best words in food for thought. He is the sort of fellow who will attract people who would be found at the celebrations, whether it be at Codrington Hill or in Bath.

And on the eve of the general’s birthday anniversary, The Georgie Porgie Orchestra will be performing at a gala event which is expected to be attended by hundreds, based on the number of seats reserved.

The Dr Doolittle Swing Band, which will be providing the music two Thursdays from this date will need to scramble and put together something other than a roadside show. Some are saying that hopefully this effort will not take as long as it has taken to get the website completed to showcase the activities for the young people it hopes to attract.

Damsel causing stress

Unbelievable. That is what some people near Baxters Road and President Kennedy Drive have been saying after what they have been hearing.

The word, according to what has been making the rounds, is that the favoured daughter wants to return to the fair land for a special task to do the work like Mary Magdalene.

But many of the people who gather, whether once, twice or thrice weekly holding up their hands, are all aghast. This damsel wants to come with the love of her life. The question is: who is this love of her life?

So the question many people are asking is if John from St John will allow any such situation.

At least the jack of all trades usually found daily eating black berries between Baxters Road and President Kennedy Drive finds it all amusing.
