THERE seems to be no way of stopping defending champion trainer Victor Cheeseman, as he once again claimed first season honours in the Barbados Turf Club’s ten-day racing season.
Now looking to make it a quadruple of training titles, Cheeseman got off to a slow start before winding up with $255 556 in earnings from 73 starters and a win percentage of 16.
Cheeseman laboured through the first few days, winning only two races, including the 2016 Coolmore “Home Of Champion” Stakes with Aysha Syndicate’s Just A Fashion.
Realising he was losing ground to the competition, he then fastened all girth belts on Gold Cup Race Day for a record five wins. These came via the David Bynoe-owned Sirius Black in the Tanglewood Stakes; Iamsogroovy in the Sandy Lane Spa Sprint, and Halle Rose, Super Lady and Northern Star. (LY)
