Blackbirds still flying high

KNOCKOUT QUEENS UWI Blackbirds ‘A’ soared one game away from a perfect first round while Pine Hill Dairy St Barnabas slipped closer to a second successive trophyless year when Division 1 netball action continued on Friday night at the Netball Stadium.

Led by a game-high 34 goals from 42 attempts by Shonica Wharton and a supporting 10/17 from the athletic Rieah Holder, the Blackbirds pecked St Barnabas 44-32. 

While UWI have advanced to4/0 with a maximum 20 points, St Barnabas are 1/3 with eight points and a possible repeat of 2015 where they did not claim a Division 1 title.

With Barbados player Sheniqua Thomas (12/15) enjoying one of her best games in three seasons, St Barnabas looked capable of giving the leaders some challenges.
