Hands on for the elderly

LIKE CLOCKWORK, about 25 members of the All For God Street Lamp Ministries charity appeared at Heroes Square at 8 on Thursday night where they offered hot food, toiletries, clothing and soothing massages to hundreds of homeless and needy people in Bridgetown.

Certified massage therapist Kristin Rojas, owner of the Tridosha, was on hand to offer her services on a night that was threatened by showers. She, however, said it was important to lend support in that way.

“I know they have their ailments and most of them are on the street, but we are all human beings and, yes, they may have fallen on hard times right now but it’s important to offer them some love and the human touch and care,” she said.

Vice president of Street Lamp, Jerome Gittens, said the massage therapy was the first step in his organisation’s bigger goal.

“We are trying to work on providing other services, we want to be able to have nurses, doctors to come in and offer their services, so this is just a start,” Gittens said.

He said the organisation had been dedicated to helping from the time it was formed in 2001.

Gittens recalled that Christians started the organisation but over time people from different denominations, backgrounds and religious beliefs had donated. (TSG)
