Pay Move

TEACHERS WANT larger pay packets, but the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) first wants to see what Government can afford.

BUT president Pedro Shepherd said his union was awaiting the results of an economic study that was being conducted by Professor Andrew Downes of the University of the West Indies, before going forward with wage demands.

“Once we get that, we are going to be able to use that to make our negotiations in terms of salary. But we are working with the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados (CTUSAB) on the matter, so we are also going to share it (the economic study) with them and they will then approach Government on the behalf of BUT and other affiliates,” Shepherd told the MIDWEEK NATION.

He would not speculate on what size of pay would be sought.  (GC)
