WEST INDIES head coach Phil Simmons and Barbados Pride selector Hendy Wallace said on Friday franchises were inclined to lean heavily on homegrown players for the Professional Cricket League (PCL) as the sides are more knowledgeable of their local players.

The two men made the comments after the third edition of the PCL draft saw all six franchises pick primarily players from their own territories once again.

“I can’t say I am disappointed [with the picks] because each team has to know what they’re looking for in terms of constructing their teams, having winning units and getting players to perform,” reasoned Simmons, who was on hand at Kensington to witness the draft.

“It’s up to them to know what exactly they have in their territories and what they have to boost their teams.”
