SOCIAL SCENE: Sushi on the social scene

SUGAR BAY HOTEL on Hastings Main Road has four restaurants, and manager Morgan Seale says food is part of the unique experience he offers to guests of the all-inclusive hotel.

But he also wants Barbadians to share the gastronomic experience and has thrown open the doors of two of the hotel’s four restaurants to Barbadian foodies.

A select few from the local media were the first to get more than a taste of what one of the restaurants has to offer, at a special pre-launch of UMI, the Japanese restaurant operated by Filipino chef Robert Pereyra and his Bajan staff.

A livewire himself, Pereyra titillated palates with traditional Japanese dishes as well as his own creative sushi creations, even spicing up his Bajan guests’ appetites with a taste of the fiery Japanese condiment wasabi.
