ERDISTON TEACHERS TRAINING COLLEGE complex is undergoing a multimillion-dollar overhaul in which Erdiston Great House will be restored.
The historic main building of the teachers’ training institution was extensively damaged by fire five years ago and Minister of Education Ronald Jones said last Friday tenders should shortly be going out for the rebuilding, estimated to cost “a few million dollars”.
Construction is to start in October.
Once used as part of the college’s academic space, the impressive two-story coral stone building, which has been the centre of teacher training since 1948, will retain its façade.
Jones said consideration was being given to promoting the spacious auditorium on the ground floor as a venue for weddings and other functions to generate income for the college. (GC)
