Highway jam

A FALLING TREE took out a utility pole on Spring Garden Highway yesterday, cutting the electricity supply in the area and leading to a severe traffic jam.

A crew from the Barbados Light & Power (BL&P) quickly responded to replace the broken pole but the downed lines forced traffic to divert to Black Rock Main Road, which became congested within minutes.

Meanwhile, residents in the area of the highway, Brighton and Black Rock were without electricity as the tree had to be removed before the pole could be replaced.

Motorists complained that the usually short route to their destinations ended up taking close to an hour or more as traffic came to a standstill at times.

The BL&P apologised for the inconvenience caused to the affected customers. (PR/AC)
