But one of the unions representing the workers has called the decision “bittersweet” since the compensation ordered for the former workers was limited under the Employment Rights Act.
In addition, it will be back to the bargaining table, of sorts, as the NCC, the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) and the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) have been ordered by the tribunal to meet and discuss a schedule for the payment of that compensation.
Yesterday, chairman of the ERT, Hal Gollop QC, and his fellow commissioners Ed Bushell, Beverly Beckles and Frederick Forde delivered a two-hour, 47-page decision in the matters brought against the NCC by Cutie Lynch, a former temporary general worker, on behalf of herself and employees represented by the NUPW, and ranger warden Anderson Chase on behalf of himself and 25 workers in the BWU’s bargaining unit.
