GUN VIOLENCE has become a public health issue and is causing Government big bucks, said head of the Accident & Emergency Department (A&E) of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Dr Chaynie Williams.

She was among panellists including acting Assistant Superintendent of Police David Welch, former “bad boy” Mario Bruce and founder of SOS [Save Our Sons] Dr Orlando Seale at a discussion held on Friday night at the Cave Hill Wesleyan Holiness Church’s Man Talk discussion titled Gun Violence – What Does It Have To Do With Me?

Williams revealed that every three days someone was admitted to the A&E with a serious bodily injury as a result of gun violence. This she said has raised serious concerns among those in the health sector as huge sums of money, time and resources are spent in treating the victims.

In addition to the cost expended, Williams submitted that those types of injuries were also causing a bottleneck and extending waiting time for patients in the department.  (SDB Media)
