AROUND 40 PEOPLE gathered this morning at the Emancipation Statue, Haggatt Hall, St Michael for the Pan African Coalition of Organisations’ Emancipation Day celebration.

During the proceedings which began just after 7 a.m. founder of the Clement Payne Movement David Comissiong said it was extremely important for Barbadians to acknowledge the sacrifice made by freedom fighters.

He contended that we would be doing a disservice to them if we did not “honour their names.”

Comissiong also blasted Government for their decision to hold Grand Kadooment on the same day as Emancipation Day.

He said respect should have been shown to such a historical day and Kadooment should have been held tomorrow instead. (RB)
