11 after Derby honours

IT’S THE DREAM of every owner, trainer and jockey to win a Derby and so tomorrow’s 77th running of the Barbados Derby will be very special for any one of the 11 owners represented.

Bills Inc. has tasted prior Derby success and it will be triply special should Bills Inc., represented by the filly Poetry In Motion, win as it will provide them with a hat-trick.

Only five people hold the distinction of notching a hat-trick in the prestigious 2 000 metres Derby, now in its 32nd year of sponsorship by Massy United Insurance Company Limited.

Cyril Deb Barnard was the first to etch his name in history’s pages as owner and breeder starting from 1951 to 1953 alongside trainer Val C. Gale and jockey Eric Holder. (LY)
