WHILE FEWER BARBADIANS might be applying to study at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus, more students have been utilising the university’s services in search for financial assistance.
UWI’s director of student services Dale Lynch revealed that within the past year, there had been an increase in not only the number of students applying for financial aid, but also in the amount of funds disbursed.
In an interview with the SATURDAY SUN while attending the launch of UWI’s inaugural Global Giving Week Student Support Rally in the Leslie Robinson Building yesterday, Lynch explained while the university catered to the needs of students from across the region, the majority of requests for financial assistance came from Barbadian students.
She said figures for the 2014 to 2015 academic year were not readily available, but acknowledged there had been a notable increase in the number of students seeking assistance. (RB)
