ELEVEN recently commissioned SOLDIERS – one lieutenant and ten second lieutenants – within the ranks of the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) had their scrolls bestowed upon them yesterday by Commander-in-chief, Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave.

Chief of Staff of the BDF, Colonel Alvin Quintyne, in his address to those gathered at the Officers’ Mess, on the grounds of St Ann’s Fort, the Garrison, encouraged the young officers to ensure they were “solidly anchored on that rung of the upward mobility ladder” on which they now found themselves.

“Today we commence the celebration of yet another anniversary of the formation of the BDF. You commissioned officers are the future leaders of this force who now stand like silent sentinels on the eastern flank,” he said.

“I encourage you to strive earnestly to move ever upward and onward towards a bright, successful military career,” he said.

Those receiving commission scrolls were Lieutenant Neville Corbin and Second Lieutenants Jamal Crick, Sena Price, Paul Alexander, Jamal Wiggins, Jamal Samrodia, Elvis King, Shenniqua Lewis, Shane Grant, Sharika Cox and Keisha Franklyn. (RA)
