FIRST-TIME Barbados representative in the triathlon at the Rio Olympic Games, Jason Wilson, is still devastated by the crash which cut short his dream of a podium finish.

Wilson made the disclosure in a statement as he recalled the events leading up to his participation in the Olympics and the circumstances that resulted in an untimely fall in the cycling segment of the triathlon, which also consists of a swim and a run. jason-wilson

“I am devastated. I was feeling too great and didn’t get to show the world what I was capable of. In sport, you only get a couple of those in your career when everything goes just right.

“Your fitness and taper all come together bang on time for a major event,” he said.

Wilson said the crash happened with just one lap to go on the 8-lap bike course after he had a great start and “was sitting in a great position on the bike, anxious to start the run and show the world what my legs had in them.” (EZS)
