Too few officials, says Stoute

FAR FROM too many, there may have been not enough Barbadian officials accompanying the competitors at the Rio Olympic Games.

In rubbishing suggestions that they were more officials than were needed in Brazil, long-standing Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) president Steve Stoute said such thinking was due to unawareness of the role of officials at major Games.

“I have been involved in Olympics for nearly 50 years and I have been hearing this at every Olympics, but the armchair critics don’t really understand the magnitude and complexity of these Games,” Stoute told WEEKENDSPORT in a wide-ranging interview yesterday.

“I would like to take those critics to an Olympic Games or even Pan American Games and let them see the magnitude and complexity of what is transpiring. While one event is going on, another is taking place ten miles away.” (EZS)
