THE ATHLETICS ASSOCIATION of Barbados (AAB) isn’t running the same race as Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley.

And its vice-president Noel Lynch yesterday called on Lashley to furnish the sporting fraternity with more information on plans for a new multi-million dollar National Stadium.

He was responding to Lashley’s announcement in yesterday’s MIDWEEK NATION that the estimated cost of rebuilding the National Stadium was $150 million, and Cabinet had decided to look at an initial amount of $50 million for the first phase that would include demolition of the existing stands and the construction of a new grandstand.

“I am speaking on behalf of my president [Catherine Jordan], who says that we do not know what we are responding to. If the minister says he has the desire to rebuild the Stadium, and there are all these expectations, but no money to fund the project and no time frame so it can only be a wish. Give us some more concrete information that we can dig our teeth into,” he said.
