BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER Victoria Dean recently said goodbye to Barbados in style with a cocktail reception hosted at her official residence, Ben-Mar.

Among the guests were fellow diplomats, high commission staff, a few politicians, and many friends and acquaintances Dean made during her Barbados and Eastern Caribbean assignment.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Maxine McClean thanked Dean for the work she did during her three-year stint.

“Thank you to beautiful Barbados,” said Dean. “Thank you for the crystal waters, the rum, the friendly welcome, the calypso, the macaroni pie . . .”.

Guests were treated to British fare such as traditional fish and chips and the cocktail nibbles while British ale was a big hit. The buzz during the night was that Dean’s warmth and hospitality, which she so often extended to a cross section of Barbados, would be missed.

Dean said Barbados, “was a very tough place to leave behind” but she vowed to return.
