BARBADOS CONTINUES to be “fittingly grateful” for the work of its labour icons.

So said Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, who lauded historical stalwarts of the labour movement and the role they played in shaping today’s society.

The Prime Minister was speaking yesterday at a wreath-laying ceremony at the statue of National Hero Sir Frank Walcott in Culloden Road, St Michael.

The event also commemorated the 100th birthday of Sir Frank and included a heritage walk entitled Labour Marches On, led by Ambassador to CARICOM and former trade unionist, Robert “Bobby” Morris, and historian and author Morris Greenidge.

The five labour champions honoured were Sir Frank and fellow National Heroes Charles Duncan O’Neal, Sir Hugh Springer, Sir Grantley Adams and Clement Payne. (LK)
