DEFEATING the Dominican Republic in their own backyard to remain in Group 1 of the Davis Cup is not beyond the Barbados tennis team, captain Kevin Yarde has said.

He told NATION SPORT the Barbados players, Darian King and Haydn Lewis, were armed with the skills to win in next month’s tie.

“I think the team has a good chance especially since Darian King defeated both of their top players Victor Estrella and Jose Hernandez before the Olympics in Colombia in the same [ATP Challenger] tournament,” he said.

Though Yarde is optimistic of a successful outing against opponents who prevailed over Barbados last year at the Wildey Tennis Centre, he explained that it would be a challenge since it was an important time for both countries. (RG)
